Matt originally joined VISION 2020 UK to implement the organisation’s strategic plans and operations. With the 2017 rebrand to Vision UK Matt was heavily involved in the formation of the new strategic panels and in leading the work of our expert committees, ensuring all achieve proper results and make full use of the expertise of specific members and experts from within and without the sight loss sector.
His role as the CEO of Vision UK involves working with and encouraging collaboration between the different organisations working within the eye health and sight loss sector and beyond. This includes taking a leading role in work with government departments, local authorities, clinical leads, commissioners and member organisations.
An experienced manager and communicator, Matt has previous experience working in both the sight and hearing loss sectors.
On his appointment, Matt said : “I’m honoured to be leading Vision UK. I Look forward to building on all the work that VISION 2020 UK and the UK Vision Strategy team have done and the work we have done forming Vision UK to set the foundations for the future. I am excited by the opportunities for strategic change which working in partnership with the eye health and sight loss sector and those outside the sector can deliver”.
National Development ManagerMary Bairstow
Mary is a qualified Optometrist who developed one of the first multi-disciplinary teams in low vision at Birmingham Focus on Blindness (managing OT, Rehabilitation Workers, Orthoptists and Optometrists).
In 2000 Mary took up a national role with Vision UK in supporting the development of low vision services through collaborative working. Mary has worked to support the collaborative sector strategy on a local and national basis. Throughout her career she has continued to practice in the NHS – specialising in low vision optometry.
