There are almost 2 million people in the UK of all ages living with sight loss. It is predicted the number of people in the UK with sight loss is set to increase in line with ageing population raising the figure to nearly 4 million people by 2050. Annually, eye health accounts for 4.5 million GP consultations, and costs the UK economy £26bn each year.
For some GPs, this area of medicine is replete with uncertainty. Given the relatively short exposure to ophthalmology during training, there may be anxieties over diagnostic or management uncertainty. We hope that this interactive day will attenuate some of those worries.
We hope your experience of this event will be rewarding, confidence-boosting and reflective. Our aim is for you to leave with numerous practical solutions, increased knowledge, and greater awareness, which you can start using straight away in your everyday clinical practice.
