An exciting opportunity at the IGA
The IGA are restructuring and have created this exciting but challenging new role to oversee all their patient support services, comprising a telephone helpline (Sightline), online patient forum, advice and information materials, and the work of their regional Development Managers. They need an exceptional manager to lead the development of the new patient support team and to line manage their front line staff.
Sightline offers information on all aspects of glaucoma, and provides emotional support to callers who are sometimes distressed or anxious. Calls vary enormously, but as treatment options become more complex and hospital eye clinics struggle to cope with increasing patient numbers the IGA are seeing an increase in average call length, and it is not unusual for calls to last 30 – 60 minutes. Sightline is staffed by a Manager (a qualified ophthalmic nurse) and an advisor, both of whom work full time. Many of the helpline calls are complex medical queries, and the team can call on ophthalmologist or optometrist trustees if needed, or on a member of the Medical & Scientific Advisory Committee (MSAC). The Sightline team and MSAC are also involved in the production of a range of patient advice booklets, all available from their website.
