There have been two exciting developments recently at the Leeds Playhouse that they hope will improve the quality of the offer for Blind and Visually Impaired audience members.
First they are soon to open a production of Road by Jim Cartwright, the first show in the brand-new Pop-Up Theatre. This production will include Audio Description at every show, performed live and in character by the entire cast. The Playhouse have been working with two Audio Description Directors – Theatre Maker Ben Wilson and Audio Describer Vicky Ackroyd – to make this a creative layer to the production, and are really excited by this new initiative. Road plays from 5th – 29th September and is suitable for ages 14+. Full details are here: https://leedsplayhouse.org.uk/events/road/ They’ve created an audio described trailer which can be found via the following link:
Secondly, they’ve just installed Recite Me accessibility software on ther website, which allows visitors to customise the site the way they need it to work for them. It includes text to speech functionality, dyslexia software, an interactive dictionary, a translation tool with over 100 languages and many other features.
