Vision UK Dementia and Sight loss Committee Statement on Dementia and Eye examinations.

The Vision UK Dementia and Sight loss Committee recommends that patients diagnosed with Dementia should have an eye examination with a registered optometrist on diagnosis and should have their eyes examined at yearly intervals post diagnosis.

As part of National Eye Health Week, the VISION 2020 UK Learning Disability committee and the VISION 2020 UK Dementia and Sight Loss committee welcome the Department of Health’s recent launch of the updated Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI)[1]. The updated certificate is a significant development with regards to eye care for people with learning disabilities and / or dementia.
