The Ophthalmology Department at King’s College Hospital (KCH) covers all sub-specialty interests. It has a full complement of Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Photographers, supporting medical staff, technicians, specialist nurses and administrative staff. There is also a dedicated, well equipped and purposely designed Eye Theatre in the Day Surgery Unit at KCH.

The Eye Clinic Liaison Service bridges the gap between local hospital services and the community to service users who are partially sighted and severely sight impaired. This post will be based between the Denmark Hill site and the ophthalmology service at Lewisham Hospital.

Working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, the postholder will support patients who are newly diagnosed with low vision, deteriorating vision, visual impairment and impending visual impairment. The Eye Clinic Liaison Officer will also provide essential support to those patients with established visual impairment who would benefit from such assistance. The Eye Clinic Liaison Officer will help to assess the patient’s needs and provide relevant advice and information. The postholder will be responsible for facilitating the registration of patients as sight impaired or severely sight impaired.

This is the first Eye Clinic Liaison Officer for our Demark Hill site and we are looking for an an applicant with a background in working with people who have a visual impairment.
