National Eye Research Centre funds pioneering research into the causes of eye disease to develop better prevention methods and more effective treatments for children and adults.

NERC’s research work complements Vision UK’s ambitions that:

Everyone looks after their sight.
People’s eye conditions are identified early, treated and, where possible, cured.
People receive services which meet their specific needs, joined-up and good quality.
People with sight loss live the lives they choose.

Vision UK’s research, cures and treatments panel is working to provide a unified position on methods to prevent, treat and cure eye health conditions, now and in the future by establishing a partnership between the sight loss and eye health sector as well as patient groups, service providers and industry.

Matt Broom, CEO Vision UK, said:
“We are pleased to welcome the National Eye Research Centre back as a member. Stopping people losing their sight unnecessarily is a key priority for Vision UK. We believe that eye research has been woefully underfunded for many years and that there is a need to provide a unified position on prevention, treatment and curing eye health conditions. We welcome a new member to our collaboration who are dedicated to medical research and treatment.”

Laura Serratrice, CEO National Eye Research Centre, said:

“We are delighted to renew our partnership with Vision UK. The National Eye Research Centre is a community of donors, volunteers, researchers, healthcare professionals, and fundraisers working together towards our common goal of beating sight loss forever. Only through research will we be able to prevent and cure sight loss, and our donors are just as crucial as the researchers we fund in helping to find the solutions we need. Through our membership of Vision UK, I very much look forward to working with the whole visual impairment community. I can’t wait to meet as many of you as possible and work together towards building a future without sight loss.”

Vision UK is the independent partnership organisation which works for the benefit of blind and partially sighted people, their communities and the general population, including those at risk of sight loss. We work with national and regional organisations in the eye health and sight loss sector, and beyond.

From the very beginning, NERC’s goal has been to support the very best research across all eye diseases and causes of sight loss in both adults and children.  Information about the National Eye Research Centre
